Advanced Life Drawing: Final Assignment

Response to "Final Critique" -

The work through out this semester was primarily based on my senior show, which reflected on the ideas of cognitive thinking and spontaneity. The series, which was made up of mono-print and hand drawn elements in colored pencil/ink, I feel was a great success and really reflected my personal experiences to create the dreamlike sequence. “The End of The Beginning”, consumed most of my time this semester but in the mean time, however, I was able to experiment with photography.

With the help of my little brothers, I was introduced to a technique to capture extreme motion. They showed me by shaking my head and relaxing my face in front of a camera that the outcome would make you appear, “funny looking.” More importantly, it was a live action caricature. There was obvious exaggeration of structure and appendage in the face and from my history of work, it was complimentary. I decided to try and capture this stylized photography by representational drawing. Using charcoal and conte’ crayon, I hoped to accurately depict this exaggeration and similar to Charles Lichtenstein, use a child’s advice to spark his own work. Thanks Ben and Jacob!

Here is the series of work I have been exploring as of now.

Thanks,
Tim

Recent Work Influenced By Old

The work presented is a preview of my upcoming senior show ideas. Any criticism or comments would be appreciated.

Please respond to the following questions:

- Is the printmaking style in the collage of random items more successful than the hand drawn elements of the skull drawing?

- Would it be better to use writing of lyrics in my drawings to help define the story of my personal experiences?

* The skull image was made most recently.

Thanks and until next time!

Senior Show Update

So, it's me again. I am writing this blog in regards to my Senior show coming up in a few months. My work has been constantly changing and I think I am really working towards a positive goal. I think in terms of memory I have got a great thing going. I want to push the idea of spiratic foun object and collage along with the miscellaneous representation of clear, precise objects and somewhat unrecognizable as well.

A few works are in progress, but there will definitely be more soon! Hopefully those reading are in anticipation!

Life Drawing (Advanced) - First Entry

The writing below is in response to the question asked in our advanced L.D. class:

This semester, I want to learn about how memory works. The way someone can look at something and remember it forever, or forget it instantly. Or how events that happen in a lifetime can be remembered or regressed.

This idea absolutly resides in psychology and brain functions.

It interests me because, in my entire life I have had to remember things for school, work, music, art, etc and some things I just cannot recall while others are like it happened moments ago. Also, I have noticed a lot of my own memories being/have been regressed, and I would like to see where it will take me on the road called memory lane. I want to explore why this is.

By looking at family history, and discussing memories with family and friends, and also looking in books about brain function and interpretation of events to the brain, I will eventually be able to create a unique style of work centered around this idea.

Memories can be really distinct or fuzzy, there will be a mixture of conte', chalk pastel, paint, ink, colored pencil, marker, and other objects to emphasise things.

I guess I should get some work on here tho! I will try to scan some in here as soon as I can and hopefully will get some positive feedback.

Until next time,
